The boys event was played on Sunday 26th June at Redbridge and 17 boys, who were all winners of their Club Tournament. Sadly the entry was down this year as less clubs took part and we could not include the runners up, as we were only allowed to use 3 courts at Redbridge. Thomas Taylor-Widgery, No 1 seed (King Edward VI Grammar School) played well all day and only lost 5 games on his way to the final. In the final he beat Oliver Grantham, No 4 seed (Grove Chelmsford), who beat Augustus Dambrauskas, no 2 seed, (New Hall School) on his way to the final. In the final, Thomas beat Oliver, only losing 2 games.
In the girls event, played on Sunday 3rd July, there were only 10 girls, mainly due to drop-outs and sadly 1 girl did not turn up. Edie Griffiths, no 1 seed (Brentwood School) won her way through, not losing a game. She beat Bella Knight (Gidea Park) in the final.
Both days went very well and it is so lovely that both the winners have a chance to go and play at the All England Club in August. We hope they both do well and enjoy their time.
Play Your Way to Wimbledon Organiser for Essex Tennis is Lesley Pitt and we thank her for all her effort and work on PYWTW this year.
