We are very sad to let you know that John Tucker, Life Vice President passed away at the weekend.  He was our President between 2008 and 2014 and served on our Council for a number of years  years making a huge contribution to tennis in Essex. In addition he was our LTA Councillor for several years later becoming an LTA Life Vice President.

John was a consummate businessman – his most audacious and innovative development was building one of the very first indoor Tennis Centres in the UK. The Clearview Tennis Centre in Brentwood, it first opened in 1983 with a farm pig house converted and extended into an indoor centre.

It hosted a Brentwood team in the Mortgage Corporation Indoor tennis league in the 1980’s and brought big crowds to the centre where you were able to watch top professionals in action.

John will be missed by so many people—he was a local Church warden for over 30 years—some of you will remember his sartorial brightness which we saw at Wimbledon when we were watching the Championships.

I know we extend our condolences to his large family, he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
